A very important website for me. A ray of hope appears in the dark months when studying how the sun moves. It’s a reference that is especially in winter, i think, to track time and see that after it gets dark, the day slowly gets brighter. I guess.

DIS is a New York-based collective composed of Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso and David Toro. Its cultural interventions are manifest across a range of media and platforms, from site-specific museum and gallery exhibitions to ongoing online projects. Most notably these include, DIS Magazine, co-founded with Nick Scholl, Patrik Sandberg and S. Adrian Massey III in 2010 as a virtual platform that examines art, fashion, music and culture, constructing and supporting new creative practices.
Since being founded, the magazine has expanded into an international community of writers, photographers, musicians and DJs. Recent ventures include DISimages, 2013, a fully operational stock photography agency that enlists artists to produce images available for private and commercial use, and DISown, an ongoing retail platform and laboratory to test the current status of the art object.
Across its various endeavors, DIS explores the tension between popular culture and institutional critique, while facilitating projects for the most public and democratic of all forums—the Internet.

I’ve neglected actually digging into this website but have always wanted to. It’s basically a great resource for creative web coding and also acts as a collaborative platform for creating web apps, and generally all kinds of wild and fun browser goodies. “Coding on Glitch is like working together in Google Docs–multiple people can work on the same project at the same time. There’s no setup, and you can see changes live on the web as you type. It's a freemium application tho.

Reading Hofstadter’s Gödel, Escher, Bach and slowly learning about fuges, I got trapped in a video loophole which peaked with this gem, which must be so hard to perform. I later realized it’s the intro for a former german tv show. Another notable exemplary piece is of course Bach’s Crab Canon on a Möbius Strip.

This platform was introduced to me during my bachelors when I was interested in critical interaction design and new media arts experiments. CreativeApplications.Net [CAN] catalogues projects, tools and platforms at the intersection of art, media and technology. Since 2008, CAN’s central objective has been to facilitate an environment that nurtures creative exchanges and networks between practitioners in art, media, design and technology. With a particular focus on education, CAN’s initiatives have played an instrumental role in the ideation, development and critique of a multitude of computational tools, projects and collaborations by providing an open platform for dialogue and knowledge sharing.

The Optimism of Modernity aims to tell the story of an incomplete and now almost forgotten project: that of modernity in British typography. This is envisaged as a matter not of style but of ‘design as a visible form of social philosophy’ and as an optimistic claim on enlightenment.

Located across from McCarren Park and the debatable line between Greenpoint and Williamsburg, the Lot Radio offers a space for DJ’s and musicians to play along with the weather outside. Note able regular and irregular shows: Jacques Renault, Justin Miller, Love Injection w/ Barbie and Paul, Falty DL, Druggy Paul, Soul Clap Records, Part Time Punk, Sazón Department. Created in 2018, this collection aims at giving visibility to libre fonts drawn by womxn designers, who are often underrepresented in the traditionally conservative field of typography. These fonts are shared under Free, Libre and Open Source licenses, which allow anyone to use them, modify their design, contribute more glyphs or styles to their non-nuclear families, build upon them and redistribute them further. They are generously published for free, feeding an ecosystem of sharing and collaborations. To support the designers, you can plan in the design budget of your project some money to donate to the designer directly, commission them with custom font designs, invite them to give a lecture and spread the word about their great designs!

I think UbuWeb is doing an amazing job with making media art accessible - and I couldn’t be happier discovering works, that can take time and focus, from the comfort of my home.
